NPU has abundant resources and its disciplinary features are distinctive. NPU has more than 26,000 students and over 3,700 facdlties. Youyi and Changan are the two campuses of NPU which cover an area of 5,100 acres in total. NPU has 17 academic schools, an international education college, an honours college, and a Joint Educational Institution (JEI)., offering 65 undergraduate programs, 32 master degree authorization first-level disciplines, 120 postgraduate programs, 22 doctorate authorization first-level disciplines, 71 doctoral programs, and 17 postdoctoral programs. Among them, 5 subject clusters of chemistry, engineering, materials science, physics and Computer science entered the top 1% of Essential Science Indicators(ESI) international discipline rankings; the materials science discipline entered the world's top 1‰. Therefore, a discipline system has been established for the compatible development of subject clusters led by aeronautics, astronautics, and marine technology with 3M (materials, mechanical engineering, mechanics) and 3C (computer, communications, control) along with subject clusters in other sciences, humanities and social science. This system has laid a sound foundation for NPU to build first-class disciplines.
NPU persists in attaching equal importance to guiding, cultivating and building intellectual achievement. NPU carries out the “Aoxiang Qualified Personnel Project” to help young teachers become outstanding academic leaders. This involves constructing support systems for their personal and professional development, and promoting their talents and skills thru the Tenure-Track mechanism. NPU also offers high quality support services for children at middle school, primary school and kindergarten levels to ensure top talents have no worries about their future generations. On-campus talent zones and overseas working zones have been set up to bring aspiring minds together in a dynamic and creative synergy. In the field of aerospace, among all the chief engineers and vice chief engineers for major models, more than half are NPU Alumni. At the 60th anniversary of Aviation Industries of China, 6 of the 10 owners of the Serve the Country Through Aviation Special Gold Medal are NPU Alumni; more than 200 NPU Alumni have top leadership roles in group companies, institutes and enterprises, including the President of China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation, Mr. Lei Fanpei. In the field of marine technology engineering, a lot of outstanding NPU Alumni are active in shipping and the underwater weapons industry as key managers and core technical professionals. A large number of NPU graduates have joined the industrial elites to become pillars of the country, leading to the “NPU Phenomenon”in the area of personnel training. Through the Aoxiang Four Seas plan which focuses on“Students International Training”, the international education capacity enhancement project which focuses on“Teacher internationalization”, the International academic impact enhancement project which focuses on“improving international academic reputation”and the international training mode education reform pilot project which focuses on“enhancing the education quality of overseas students”, NPU keeps exploring the various models of international cooperation in education.
