On April 24th, the awarding ceremony of the 2018 CDN China was held in Beijing. Yu Han, an undergraduate from the Industry Design Department in the School of Mechanical Engineering, won the annual championship of "Best Digitalized Modeling Award of the 2018 CDN China" after rigorous review of preliminary and semi-finals. His designed theme which is 2040 science fiction film vehicle design - Lynk& Co Ball. This award became the first championship award Northwestern Polytechnical University (NPU) won.
The 2018 CDN China was sponsored by Car-Design News which provided students with design assignments made by the world's top car manufacturers and giving opportunities of real-world project review from the top Chinese automotive designers. The competition attracted worldwide automobile manufacturers to participate in the contest. The judges of this contest are all from the top designers in the automotive industry including but not limited to: Chen Zheng (the Global Design Director of Changan Automobile company), Lu Di (the General Manager of JAC Italian Automobile Design Center and Vice President of Global Design), Peter Ortlieb (the Design Director of Volkswagen Group Asia Future Center), Akiyama Fukuchi (the Vice President of Nissan China Design Center (NDC) and Infiniti Beijing Design Center (IDB)). The CDN China Auto Design Competition has been successfully held for nine years. It has become a media for major automotive manufacturers to select talent designers and demonstration platform for the strength of Chinese automotive design in recent years. Many award-winning designers have successfully begun their careers in China and world-renowned automotive design studios.
