The Belt and Road Aerospace Innovation Alliance (BRAIA) 3rdSpace Exploration Summer Camp started on July 15, 2019, and was successfully completed in National University of Sciences and Technology (NUST), Islamabad, Pakistan on July 23, 2019.
NUST is one of BRAIA initial members and one of the Standing Council members. It hosted this Summer Camp. Prof. Rizwan Riaz, Principal of NUST Research Center for Modeling and Simulation, expressed his congratulations to this fruitful Summer Camp in the closing ceremony. The Associate Prof. Adnan Maqsood, who has been leading the team for the planning, designing and implementation of this event, reviewed all the activities organized during the camp period. Al the participants of the Summer Camp, the management team members of Research Center for Modeling and Simulation of NUST, together with all volunteer students of NUST attended this closing ceremony.
The participants shared their achievements and feelings about participating this Summer Camp. The most frequently used words by them include appreciation, fruitful, hospitality and friendship. During the last two weeks, participants had the chance to take the lectures given by excellent professors, researchers and chief designers from the university, enterprise and research institutes, learning the high-performance computation technology and applications mainly in aeronautical field. Apart from lectures, the hands-on lab sessions helped participants to apply what they’d learned into practice. Previlleged visits to Pakistan Aeronautical Complex, IST and PAF Lower Topa in Northern Mountain area of Pakistan, etc.; impressive city sightseeing, sports and parties, have filled each day of participants in a very delicate and enjoyable way,
Ms. Yuan Yun, assistant to the Dean of NPU International College, on behalf of the Permanent Secretariat Office of BRAIA, presented the hosting certificate of BRAIA activities to NUST and expressed her gratitude towards all the efforts NUST has made for this Summer camp. She wished BRAIA would continue to be the bridge and platform serving for all BRAIA members to enhance the multi-lateral cooperation towards talent cultivation, research cooperation, etc. in aerospace domain.
Over 80 participants from 15 universities, research institutes and enterprises from 6 countries, China, Pakistan, UK, Austria, Turkey and Malaysia. More than 20 experts and scholars delivered lectures related to High Performance Computing. Participants were also invited to visit Institute of Space Technology (IST) in Islamabad and took part in the Water Rocket Contest.
The summer camp eventually turned to be very successful and fruitful thanks to the excellent job done by NUST. This event was also the 2ndBRAIA student exchange project, which took place this year out of China, following the 2019 BRAIA Winter Camp in Cairo, Egypt. It is also the BRAIA’s efforts on responding and implementing the Belt and Road Initiative.
