According to a circular issued by the Ministry of Education, Northwestern Polytechnical University (NPU) has been approved for three majors, namely molecular science and engineering (code 070304T), robotics engineering (code 080803T) and cyberspace security (code 080911TK), and will start to recruit students in 2020.
The major of "molecular science and engineering" is a new and highly interdisciplinary basic major that uses the theories and knowledge of the internal molecules of substances to solve the chemical and related scientific problems in chemical industry, energy, environment and materials.
"Robot engineering" is a new multidisciplinary engineering major of integrated application of machinery and electronics, information, computer, control and communications, and other basic theoretical knowledge and skills. As a high-end intelligent equipment, robots are the ultimate ideal of the integration of mechanization, informatization and automation, which covers from the industrial chain of robot ontology design research and development and manufacturing to the downstream industry chain of the robot system integration and application.
"Cyberspace security" is a new engineering major with professional knowledge in cryptography, system security, network security, application security, information content security and other fields. Students are required to master solid basic theories of mathematics, natural sciences, humanities and social sciences, engineering technology as well as systematic professional knowledge and practical ability in cyberspace security.
In recent years, the school is considering cohesion between undergraduate majors and disciplines, adding nine new majors such as artificial intelligence, data science and big data technology, ship and marine engineering, vehicle control and information engineering, etc. formulating a professional layout of giving priority to engineering with coordinated development in science, management, economics, law, literature, and art.
