Flowers are blooming with its delightful fragrance in June, and graduation season is right around the corner. In order not to let the epidemic stop international students in China from exploring Chinese culture, while to imprint the international graduates with the spirit of Northwestern Polytechnical University, the International College held an event for international students to experience Chinese traditional culture on Chang 'an Campus. Twenty-two students from nine countries took part in this unique cultural-experiencing activity.
In the morning, it was the traditional Chinese culture education session. Chinese students taught the International students about the various Hanfu styles and Chinese traditional etiquette, displayed painting and calligraphy, and prepared Chinese folk music appreciation and Chinese classical dance teaching. The girls learned Chinese classical dance. Boys with a strong interest in Chinese martial arts learned some classic moves of Tai Chi. Under the epidemic situation, the students always kept the masks on during the indoor events, but the masks didn’t cover their smiles or block their beauty, but together with the Hanfu, added a bit of classical charm to them.
In the afternoon, international students dressed in Hanfu and took graduation photos on campus. The international students in Hanfu also became a gorgeous sight on campus. In the end, under the statue of He Zun, all the students recited the school song "Splendid China (Zhong Hua Can Lan), Boundless NPU (Gong Da Wu Jiang)", giving a perfect ending to the activity.
After the event, students expressed their desire to learn more about traditional Chinese culture. Abbas Malik, an international student from Pakistan, said: "I missed a lot of opportunities to get to know Chinese culture outside after the outbreak of COVID-19. This activity of learning Chinese traditional culture in Hanfu is great! Thanks to the International College, I hope this kind of event can be held more often!"
The International College will further implement the spirit of "Chairman Xi’s reply to the letter from Pakistani students studying in Beijing", build mutual learning platform for Chinese and international students, to help international students percept China, study Chinese traditional culture, and join hands with youth from NPU to contribute to realizing Chinese dream and building a community with a shared future for humanity.
