The 10th Materials School Deans' Forum of National Famous Universities and Colleges was held from September 26 to 27 in Xi’an. Gao Ruiping, deputy director of the National Natural Science Foundation of China, Lei Peng, deputy director of the High Tech Department of the Ministry of science and technology, Zhang Guoqing, leader of expert group on “14th five year plan”of the Ministry of science and technology on the advanced structures and composite materials , Huang Wei and Wei Bingbo, academicians of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and materials school deans and experts from more than 30 universities, college and research institutes gathered together to focus on the topic "stimulating the vitality of discipline development, deepening the reform on graduate students cultivation ", discussed the construction and future direction of the world-class materials discipline.
Materials School Deans' Forum of National Famous Universities and Colleges was initiated by deans from materials school of well-known universities, such as Tsinghua University, Zhejiang University, Shanghai Jiaotong University, Xi'an Jiaotong University and Northwestern Polytechnical University in 2010. So far, the forum has been held for nine times, widely concerned by national experts and scholars in the field of materials. It has established a strong exchange and cooperation platform for the development of materials discipline in China. The 10th forum sets five sub-forums with forty-two reports focusing on strengthening the guidance of Party, constructing high-level materials discipline, innovating personnel training mechanism, and strengthening teaching staff construction.It contributes collective wisdom to scientific planning of the national materials discipline development, and enhancing the capability of materials science and technology serving for significant national strategies in the “14th five year plan”.
