On April 7, Northwestern Polytechnical University (NPU) held a ceremony to confer an honorary professorship on Tuimebayev Zhanseit Kanseituly, President of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University. NPU President Song Baowei attended the event.

President Song Baowei extended a warm welcome to Tuimebayev and his delegation, and expressed appreciation for the Kazakh side’s long-standing support for the development of NPU Kazakhstan Branch Campus. He noted that since the two universities jointly established the branch campus under the witness of the two heads of state, exchanges have become increasingly close and cooperation has yielded fruitful results. Taking this conferment as a new starting point, NPU will continue to implement the important consensus reached by the two heads of state, work closely with its Kazakh partner to advance the high-quality development of the Kazakhstan Branch Campus, and cultivate more successors dedicated to China–Kazakhstan friendship.

President Tuimebayev remarked that the establishment of the NPU Kazakhstan Branch Campus is a key outcome of the consensus between the two heads of state. He spoke highly of the achievements in bilateral cooperation in areas such as satellite development and materials science, and encouraged students at the branch to pursue academic excellence and personal growth. He added that the honorary professorship is not only an honor but also a responsibility, and pledged to actively fulfill his role by serving as a bridge to further deepen cooperation and jointly build a model of China–Kazakhstan higher education collaboration.

A report on the progress of the NPU Kazakhstan Branch Campus was presented at the ceremony. Representatives from the School of Astronautics, School of Materials Science and Engineering, School of Electronics and Information Technology, and School of Computer Science shared updates and future plans regarding discipline alignment, platform co-development, and joint talent cultivation. A student representative from the branch campus expressed gratitude to both universities and aspired to become a contributor to China–Kazakhstan friendship and people-to-people connectivity.
During the ceremony, president Song Baowei presented the certificate of honorary professorship to President Tuimebayev and conferred upon him the university emblem.

The event was attended by representatives from relevant departments of NPU and all 2024 cohort students of the Kazakhstan Branch Campus.
