Dancing in Harmony, Sharing the Beauty of Chinese Culture – International College Organizes Chinese Dance Workshop for International Students

2026-05-15 17:31

To further promote people-to-people and cultural exchanges between China and other countries, enrich the campus cultural life of international students, and enhance their appreciation of traditional Chinese culture, International College organized a Chinese dance workshop for international students on the afternoon of May 7. The workshop invited Dr. Wang Shaodan, a faculty member of the Art Education Center and head of the University Student Art Troupe. The event blended cultural immersion with aesthetic education in a relaxed and engaging format, attracting enthusiastic participation from many international students.

During the workshop, Dr. Wang Shaodan broke down the unique aesthetic core of Chinese classical dance in a clear and accessible manner. She highlighted the distinctive Chinese dance philosophy of "circularity," explaining the movement logic of "moving left by first moving right, moving forward by first moving backward, and the interplay between motion and stillness." She also carefully deconstructed classic movement paths such as horizontal circles and vertical circles, vividly presenting the graceful continuity and enduring charm of Chinese classical dance.

The international students carefully absorbed the stylistic essence of Chinese classical dance. Through the integration of breath, posture, and rhythm, they personally experienced the subtle, introspective, and cyclical Eastern philosophy embodied in the flowing movements of Chinese dance. Immersed in the experience, they gained a deep appreciation of the cultural richness and artistic charm of traditional Chinese dance.

This Chinese dance workshop, using dance as a medium and art as a bridge for emotional expression, not only enhanced international students' understanding and appreciation of traditional Chinese culture through hands-on participation and broadened their cultural horizons, but also further enriched the campus aesthetic education activity system and diversified the forms of international student development. In the next phase, our college will continue to organize a variety of cultural experience activities, build platforms for cultural exchange and mutual learning between China and other countries, and support international students in telling China's stories well, fostering warmth and building consensus through cultural integration.
