Recently, the departure ceremony for Northwestern Polytechnical University’s 2026 “Soaring Across the Globe” Summer Program, together with pre-departure training for accompanying faculty members, was held at the Youyi Campus. Vice President Kong Jie attended the event and delivered remarks. Also present were representatives from relevant administrative departments and schools, international affairs coordinators, and faculty members who will accompany the student groups.
At the meeting, Chen Jun, Deputy Director of the Office of International Cooperation, presented a report on the implementation of the 2026 “Soaring Across Globe” Program. During the 2026 winter vacation, NPU sent more than 1,000 undergraduate students to destinations outside the Chinese mainland for study and exchange. The programs were implemented safely, smoothly, and in an orderly manner. The University currently plans to send approximately 2,500 students on summer programs.

The meeting recognized units that demonstrated outstanding performance in organizing and implementing the 2025 “Soaring Across Globe” Program. Six units, including the School of Integrated Circuits and Microelectronics, received the Excellence Award, while 16 units, including the School of Aeronautics, received the Outstanding Performance Award.

In 2026, the “Soaring Across Globe” Summer Program features seven themes: Taking Responsibility in Global Governance; Shaping the Future through the Belt and Road Initiative; Reaching New Heights in Scientific and Technological Innovation; Building Strong Foundations and Pursuing Excellence; Expanding Horizons at the Frontiers of Scholarship; Showcasing Talent in International Competitions; and Fostering Mutual Understanding through People-to-People Exchange. Kong Jie presented flags to the representative units for each theme. He encouraged the faculty trip leaders to remain committed to their educational mission and serve as trusted guides for students pursuing study and learning opportunities overseas.

On behalf of the NPU, Kong Jie acknowledged the achievements of the 2025 “Soaring Across Globe” Program and congratulated the units that received recognition. He noted that the “Soaring Across Globe” Program is a flagship initiative within NPU’s international talent development system. It also represents a concrete step by NPU to engage proactively with the evolving landscape of global governance and integrate more deeply into the international higher education community. The program carries the educational mission of preparing NPU’s “Chief Engineer–Type” talent to enter the international arena. At the same time, it demonstrates NPU’s firm commitment to expanding the international openness of education and strengthening its global cooperation network. Kong outlined four expectations for the faculty members preparing to lead the summer programs. First, they should take full responsibility for safety, ensure rigorous management throughout each program, and maintain a firm line of defense against potential risks. Second, they should make education an integral part of every stage of the program, ground study visits in students’ academic disciplines, and ensure that participants gain substantive knowledge and practical experience. Third, they should strictly observe all rules and requirements, conduct themselves appropriately, and safeguard the University’s reputation. Fourth, they should cultivate in students a strong sense of responsibility toward their country, provide effective values-based guidance, and help them develop a broader global perspective.
Following the send-off ceremony, staff members from the Office of International Cooperation conducted training for accompanying faculty members. The training covered lessons drawn from past cases, safety management, foreign affairs protocols, and emergency response. Through the analysis of representative cases, the sessions further clarified the responsibilities and management requirements applicable to faculty trip leaders. They also strengthened participants’ capabilities in safety management and emergency response, helping ensure that the summer overseas exchange programs are conducted safely and in an orderly manner.
NPU will continue to strengthen the “Soaring Across Globe” platform and refine its approach to cultivating internationally competent talent. The University will advance a diverse range of educational opportunities, including joint degree and training programs, overseas exchanges, international competitions, and visiting study and research programs. Through these initiatives, NPU will open up comprehensive pathways for its students to engage with the world, understand the world, and contribute to the world. It will encourage young students to broaden their horizons, strengthen their capabilities, and shoulder their responsibilities on the international stage, developing into future leaders distinguished by a deep commitment to their country, a pursuit of excellence, and the capacity to shape the future.
