At NPU, dreams take flight and new journeys begin.
From August 21 to 22, 4,668 incoming undergraduates from across the country arrived at Northwestern Polytechnical University (NPU), ready to pursue their aspirations and begin a new chapter in life.
On August 21, Zhang Yunming, Chairman of Board of Trustees, and President Song Baowei each led an inspection of orientation operations. They met newly arrived undergraduates and expressed appreciation to the faculty, staff and students working to welcome them. Yang Xiao, Vice Chairman of Board of Trustees, and Vice Presidents Yue Xiaokui and Zhang Fuli joined related activities.

At the registration sites, many students eagerly shared their first impressions. The campus scenes they had first glimpsed in their admission packages were now real and within reach. The University Gate ,the He Zun Sculpture Group, the Military Industry Quality Education Practice Center, and the Library were among the landmarks that drew students to stop and take photographs. Brimming with energy and anticipation, the new arrivals captured their first moments at NPU.
Why to NPU?
At the registration sites, many students shared what had inspired their choice.
“NPU’s proud heritage as the ‘Cradle of Chief Designers’ was one of the main reasons I applied,” said a student surnamed Yang from the School of Marine Science and Technology. “Now that my dream of studying here has become a reality, I hope to immerse myself in NPU’s vibrant academic environment, grow through four years of dedicated study, and build the strength I need to pursue my aspirations.”
A student surnamed Zhang from the School of Materials Science and Engineering said that NPU’s patriotic commitment to “forging swords for the nation,” together with its distinctive strengths in aeronautics, astronautics and marine engineering, had drawn him to the university. “I have long aspired to work in aerospace materials,” he said. “I hope to build a solid foundation in my field, align my personal ambitions with the needs of the country, and grow through diligent study and practical work into an NPU student ready to shoulder the mission of our times.”
“I chose NPU because I aspire to work on the major technologies that drive national development,” said another student surnamed Zhang from the School of Civil Aviation. “NPU’s many research achievements in response to major national needs made me even more certain of my decision. I look forward to studying hard, strengthening my capabilities, and preparing myself to contribute to the development of the nation’s strategic equipment in the future.”
Behind every choice lies a vision for the future. At NPU, aspirations do not remain on paper. From classrooms and laboratories to hands-on innovation and major research projects, NPU provides young students with a broad platform on which to learn, explore and grow.

Student volunteers and teams from logistics, security and medical services were already in place. From station pickups and campus directions to luggage assistance and answers to questions, they worked tirelessly and greeted every new student with enthusiasm and warm smiles.
Inside the auxiliary hall of Ao'xiang Stadium, registration stations for the university’s schools and colleges were arranged in orderly rows. School leaders, class advisers and counselors worked on site, answering questions and coordinating check-in procedures. Carefully designed welcome gifts featuring the distinctive character of each school also offered students a warm introduction to their new academic homes.
Meanwhile, the university’s digital registration platform updated arrival data in real time, making orientation services more precise and efficient.
Thoughtful Support to Make Every Hope a Reality
“No student will have to abandon their studies because of financial hardship.”
This is both a commitment and a responsibility for NPU. A dedicated “Green Channel” for financial assistance was available at the registration site, with simplified procedures for students in need. The university also distributed care packages to students facing financial difficulties, helping them begin university life with confidence and peace of mind.
Free Fu brick tea and sour plum drinks were provided at welcome stations. Rest areas for parents were set up at multiple locations across the Yuntianyuan, Xingtianyuan and Haitianyuan. Dining hours were extended, with uninterrupted lunch service, providing students and their families with convenient and comfortable places to eat and rest.
During the summer break, NPU continued to improve its student living environment. A newly completed residence hall—Building No. 4 in the Haitianyuan—opened to students, while common activity spaces, laundry facilities and other amenities in several buildings of Xingtianyuan and Yuntianyuan were upgraded to make campus life more comfortable and convenient.
Shared spaces throughout the student residential communities now offer learning-and-innovation hubs, immersive study rooms, leisure and cultural zones, faculty workstations and other multifunctional facilities. A diverse range of convenient community services awaits students as they explore their new home.
