On August 26, 2026, the International College organized a special orientation session to help new international students adapt quickly to campus life, understand the requirements related to enrollment and academic study, and embark smoothly on their educational journey in China.

Du Xiaojuan, counselor for the 2026 master's and doctoral students, and Lu Tongtong and Wang Yitong from the Office of Teaching Affairs delivered a series of presentations in succession, providing comprehensive and targeted guidance and support for the new international students.

At the beginning of the event, Du Xiaojuan guided the international students through a systematic study of the International Student Enrollment Guide and Frequently Asked Questions for International Students, with a particular focus on visa-related issues, which are among the concerns of greatest interest to international students. She provided a detailed overview of the required documents, application procedures, and key considerations for visa applications, while answering frequently asked questions one by one. This helped the new students better understand the application process and resolve practical concerns. She also gave a comprehensive introduction to the university's rules and regulations, covering various aspects of campus life, cultural exchange, academic study and research, and scholarship evaluation. Taking into account the differences in educational programs for undergraduate and master's and doctoral students, she provided tailored guidance for different student groups, enhancing the relevance and effectiveness of the orientation. In addition, she introduced the responsibilities, office locations, and working hours of the College's functional departments, providing clear and convenient guidance for international students to handle various campus-related matters efficiently.

During the academic guidance session, Lu Tongtong provided an in-depth explanation of key academic matters, helping new students gain a comprehensive understanding of the academic timeline of their degree programs and clarify the curriculum structure, credit requirements, and key course-selection rules for different degree levels. Wang Yitong gave a detailed, step-by-step explanation of the course-selection process, covering how to review their degree program plan, understand graduation credit requirements, plan their course schedule, check course offerings, log into the course-selection system, and select course preferences through the points-based selection system. This provided a solid foundation for new students to successfully complete their course selection. The teachers from the Office of Teaching Affairs also shared practical academic planning tips tailored to the academic needs of international students, helping them develop an initial and well-structured study plan while identifying areas for deeper academic specialization and planning their long-term academic development.

The teachers provided targeted guidance from a professional perspective, helping international students quickly adapt to the pace of academic and campus life. Outstanding senior students also shared their experiences from the perspective of fellow students, inspiring new students to look forward to their campus life.

During the sharing session, ASIM SALEEM, a doctoral student in the 2022 cohort, drew on his own experience in doctoral research to share practical insights into organizing research processes and managing time. He encouraged new students to approach challenges encountered in research with a calm and positive mindset and to maintain a proactive and dedicated attitude toward learning. HANIA KHALID, a master's student in the 2024 cohort, shared her experience regarding key aspects of master's-level study, including academic requirements and research paper publication. Her sharing helped new master's students gain a clearer understanding of graduation requirements, strengthen their research foundations, and enhance their academic research skills. AREEB MUHAMMAD, an undergraduate student in the 2025 cohort, reflected on his campus experience during his first year at NPU and encouraged new undergraduate students to actively participate in various campus activities, take the initiative to communicate and make friends with students from different countries, develop their interpersonal skills through volunteer service and social practice, and experience the unique charm of Chinese culture firsthand. CHE TAY MING, a 2026 master's student and an alumnus of NPU, shared tips on course selection and ways to make effective use of university resources based on his own academic experience. He reminded fellow students to cherish their valuable time studying at NPU, stay grounded, and make steady progress.

The successful event provided international students with an important platform to gain a comprehensive understanding of campus life and plan their academic journeys. Through the combination of guidance on university regulations, academic support, and peer experience sharing, students gained a clearer understanding of how to navigate their studies and campus life, while also addressing common questions and concerns at the start of their studies. The event also demonstrated the International College’s commitment to providing attentive and practical support for its new students. As they begin their studies at NPU, the 2026 international student cohort is encouraged to adapt quickly to campus life, focus on their academic goals, engage actively with their peers, and make steady progress both academically and personally as they begin a fulfilling new chapter at NPU.
