Enhancing First-Aid Skills and Promoting Campus Safety — International College and NPU Hospital Co-host First-Aid Training for International Students

2026-09-11 18:27

To further promote knowledge of emergency first aid and enhance international students’ ability to save themselves and assist others in emergency situations, the International College invited a medical team from the Northwestern Polytechnical University (NPU) Hospital to conduct a practical and comprehensive training session on emergency first-aid knowledge and skills at the Nanshan Art Center on the morning of August 28, 2026.

The training adopted an integrated approach combining theoretical instruction, practical demonstrations, and group-based hands-on practice. Using clear and accessible language, Dr. LIU from the NPU Hospital explained why the “golden four minutes” are critical in emergency care and systematically introduced the procedures for cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), the use of automated external defibrillators (AEDs), and on-site emergency treatment for choking caused by a foreign object.

During the practical demonstration session, Dr. LIU used a training mannequin to explain the key procedures and challenging aspects of CPR and AED use. The doctor demonstrated proper techniques for chest compressions, clearing foreign objects from the mouth, rescue breathing, and attaching AED electrode pads. To ensure that every participant had sufficient opportunities for hands-on practice, the students were divided into six groups. Each group was assigned a doctor, a training mannequin, and a training AED device, and conducted repeated practice of chest compressions and rescue breathing. The international students showed great enthusiasm throughout the training. Many actively volunteered to take part in the simulated exercises under the step-by-step guidance of the medical staff. Through repeated practice and immediate feedback and correction, they gradually mastered the essential techniques.

The training not only effectively enhanced the international students’ practical emergency first-aid skills but also provided strong support for building a safe and harmonious campus environment. Moving forward, the International College will continue to promote emergency first-aid education and public awareness, further enhancing international students’ safety awareness, self-rescue abilities, and capacity for mutual assistance. Through these efforts, the College will continue strengthening its emergency response support network and contributing to a safer campus for all.
