On September 10, Northwestern Polytechnical University (NPU) held a grand Teachers’ Day commendation ceremony under the theme “Carrying Forward the Spirit of Educators and Fostering a Culture of Respect for Teachers and Education.” Zhang Yunming, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of NPU, attended the event and delivered remarks, while President Song Baowei announced the commendation decisions. The ceremony was presided over by Executive Vice President Zhang Yanning.
Attendees included members of NPU leadership, Academician Huang Wei, Director of NPU Academic Committee, Academician Li Hejun, Deputy Director of the Committee, heads of various schools and departments, as well as representatives of award-winning faculty members, retiring teachers, newly appointed faculty members, and students.
Zhang Yunming conveyed President Xi Jinping’s Teachers’ Day congratulations and sincere greetings to teachers and education professionals across the country. He also extended Teachers’ Day greetings to all faculty and staff, congratulated the outstanding collectives and individuals being honored, and expressed sincere gratitude and deep respect to retiring teachers for their decades of dedicated service. He then shared four expectations for NPU’s faculty:
First, remain steadfast in loyalty and conviction,and serve as guides who are theoretically grounded and politically steadfast.
Second, stay true to the mission of education, and serve as dedicated educators who pursue excellence in teaching and devote themselves to imparting knowledge.
Third, shoulder the responsibility of serving the country, and serve as pioneers who dare to explore new ground and strive for self-reliance and strength.
Fourth, embrace responsibility and collective purpose, and serve as dedicated contributors who work together with shared purpose and advance NPU through concrete action.
Song Baowei announced the decisions on honoring recipients of NPU’s 2026 Awards for Fostering Virtue through Education, Outstanding Staff Awards, and Outstanding Collective Awards.
Faculty and student representatives then spoke in turn, sharing their reflections and personal thoughts.
Teachers are the foundation of education. At the ceremony, NPU honored outstanding collectives and individuals who have achieved notable accomplishments in education and teaching, scientific research, administration, and service. The event encouraged all faculty members to carry forward the spirit of educators, uphold the fundamental mission of fostering virtue through education, and devote themselves to serving the country through science and technology,and contribute to NPU’s development as a world-class university through tangible achievements.
