On September 13, Northwestern Polytechnical University (NPU)’s Aviation Science and Technology Innovation Base (Aeromodelling Team) held a special session for international students in Room C204, Building 3 of Haitianyuan at the Chang'an Campus. The event attracted dozens of international students from more than 20 countries, bringing students together through aviation science and technological innovation and opening a new chapter of cross-cultural exchange.

During the session, representatives of the Base provided a systematic introduction to the team’s development, innovation-oriented training model, aeromodel development and hands-on projects and achievements in various high-level competitions. They presented key areas of innovation, including aeromodelling, aerodynamic design, and flight testing and tuning, while patiently answering students’ questions regarding joining the team, participating in projects, and improving technical skills. The session enabled international students to gain a comprehensive understanding of the Base’s innovation platform and development resources, receiving enthusiastic feedback from participants.

The special session represents a vivid example of the Aviation Science and Technology Innovation Base’s long-term commitment to international talent development through science and technology innovation. As one of NPU’s core platforms for aviation science and technology innovation education, the Aviation Science and Technology Innovation Base (Aeromodelling Team) has steadily advanced its international development under the guidance of Professor Guo Qing and his team. After decades of continuous development and evolution, the Base has established a distinctive international development model integrating competitive events, international science outreach, and joint education and training. Through decades of development, the Base has established an international engagement model centered on competitions, science outreach, and joint training. Its international activities date back to the 1950s and 1960s, when the team set records and achieved some of China’s early international breakthroughs in aeromodelling. Since 2000, it has further connected with international competitions and expanded cross-border academic exchanges. In recent years, the Base has also deepened cooperation in aviation science outreach in Southeast Asia and created new channels for international exchange in science and technology innovation. Its international presence has continued to grow and improve.

In recent years, the Base’s international development has entered a new stage of high-quality advancement. The team has continuously participated in top-level international competitions, including the International Military Unmanned Systems Competition in Egypt, and has won major honors such as overall championships and gold awards on multiple occasions. Competing alongside teams from more than 20 countries under extremely complex conditions, the Base has demonstrated NPU’s engineering capabilities in unmanned systems. Meanwhile, the Base has actively built bridges for international cooperation, establishing stable research exchanges and innovation partnerships with universities and aviation organizations in multiple countries across the Middle East and Southeast Asia. Looking ahead, the Base will continue to deepen the development of its international education and training system, encourage outstanding students from around the world to participate in science and technology innovation practices, and further expand its global network of international exchange. With aviation as a bridge and innovation as a driving force, the Base aims to create a high-level, open platform for international exchange and cooperation in aviation innovation.
