On the evening of September 16, 2026, at 7:00 p.m., the inaugural "Fireside Talk" forNPU’s 2026 international students was held at the International Youth Exchange Center, 3rd Floor, Building C, Haitianyuan. Moderated by Choo Hui Xin, a Malaysian international student, the event featured Li Ziwei,Associate Dean of International College, and Wang Yitong, a teacher from the Office of International Student Teaching Management, who sat together with international students for an open conversation covering three key themes: campus life, career development, and academic growth, the conversation provided students with an opportunity to share their thoughts, raise questions, and receive practical guidance.

On campus life, the faculty and students exchanged views on academic pressure and physical and mental well-being. The teachers advised students to manage their time effectively and introduced available support systems, including psychological counseling, emergency assistance, and regular care from counselors.

On career development, addressing topics such as internships and employment in China, gaining local experience, and career planning, the teachers recommended that students get involved early in student organizations, innovation competitions, and local internships to strengthen cross-cultural collaboration and leadership skills, achieving a smooth transition from campus to industry.

On academic growth, the teachers outlined the process of joining research laboratories, selecting academic advisors, and participating in research projects, and explained relevant policies on academic support and course retakes helping new students chart a clear direction and ease their concerns.

The event featured lively interaction and a warm atmosphere. Faculty members addressed students’ questions in detail, helping ease concerns related to language adjustment, coursework, and career planning, while strengthening their sense of belonging at NPU. Students said the “Fireside Talk” gave them an open and direct channel to share their thoughts and concerns.

“The Fireside Talk” aims to provide international students with a welcoming space for cross-cultural communication, where they can share their experiences openly and seek practical guidance on the challenges they encounter while studying in China. Looking ahead,International College will continue to organize a wider range of themed activities in response to students’ academic and personal development needs, further enhancing their learning experience and supporting their success at NPU. Through these efforts, International College hopes to foster an open, inclusive, and supportive international campus community.
