After nearly a month of fierce battles of 289 games, the 23rd CUBA Shaanxi Provincial Grassroots Men's First League and Second League Finals came to an end on January 9 in the Soaring Gymnasium of Northwestern Polytechnical University. After the competition, the high-level men's basketball team of NPU won second place in the first league, and the ordinary men's basketball team won the championship, achieving three consecutive championships in Shaanxi Province. The Women's Basketball Team of NPU won eighth place.
This competition was sponsored by the China University Sports Association and the Education Department of Shaanxi Provincial Government, hosted by the Shaanxi Student Sports Association and NPU. It aims to further promote the development of sports in universities of Shaanxi province, enrich campus sports culture, and improve students' basketball competitive level.
Starting from December 19, 2020, the competition has been held at 6 universities including NPU and Shaanxi University of Science and Technology. There are 3 different groups in the competition. The winning teams of each group will represent Shaanxi in the CUBA divisional competition.
At 14:00 on January 9th, the Shaanxi Provincial Final of the CUBA "Men's First League" kicked off in Soaring Stadium. The two sides of the game were NPU and XJTU. The players cooperated tacitly on the court and won bursts of applause and applause from the fans with their excellent performance. The two sides fought fiercely, our team fought to the last minute of the game and won the runner-up in Shaanxi Province. At 15:30 in the afternoon, NPU played against Xi'an Eurasia College in the Shaanxi Province Finals of the CUBA Men's League Two. Coach Zhang Heng made many adjustments under the unfavorable start, and eventually overtook the score and won.
A special memorial ceremony was held in the middle of the game to commemorate Liu Huadong, the assistant coach and former basketball player of NPU who died of illness. Audience stood in solemn memory and retired Liu Huadong's No. 8 jersey, which is not only a tribute, also a heritage.
Both the high-level men's basketball team and the ordinary men's basketball team of NPU will represent Shaanxi in the next divisional matches. Hope they will train hard, show their style and level in the subsequent games, and win glory for our school.
