On June 8, 2021, the first meeting between the School of Software and with the Department of Computer Science, Loughborough University, UK was held at Room 732, Yi Building, Youyi Campus. The meeting was held both offline and online. Dean, Prof. Zheng Jiangbin; Dean Assistant, Dr. Wei Qianru; Secretaries for International Exchanges, Xiao Chunxia and Yan Qianwen from School of Software, and Program Manager, Wu Yixiong from Office of International Cooperation attended this meeting. Attendees from Loughborough University (LU) are, Dr. Lin Guan, Senior Lecturer and Academic Lead for China Partnership Program, Computer Science Department; Ms. Caroline Feeley, International Partnerships Manager, International Office Undergraduate Support Team, Wolfson School, and Nancy Li, General Manager and Sarah Chen, Project Director of UK Fonton, the Official agent of Loughborough University in Xi’an. The meeting was hosted by Wu Yiqiong.
At the beginning of this meeting, Ms. Wu Yiqiong expressed her warm welcome to the attendees from LU and introduced the attendees from both universities. Then Ms. Xiao Chunxia and Dr. Lin Guan gave an introductory presentation from each side respectively. In her slides, Ms. Xiao mainly focused on the general information, student cultivation and international cooperation and exchanges of School of Software, NPU. As one of the 35 National Pilot Schools of Software in China, the School of Software has long been carrying out NPU’s mission and strive for excellence through “a solid foundation, internationalization and engineering-orientation”. Up to now, the School has established partnership and friendship with over 10 renowned universities around the world. Dr. Lin Guan gave a wonderful talk about the departmental information, covering topics from overview, student quality, research themes to suggested collaboration modes. Later, Ms. Caroline Feeley gave a further introduction of LU, especially the joint student cultivation programs running in LU.
After that, participants from both universities made a thorough discussion about the potential collaborations on joint student cultivation programs including “3+1+1”, “4+1”, and “1+1+1”. A consensus for collaboration was reached at the end of this meeting.
Loughborough University is a top UK university, with an international reputation for excellence in teaching and research, strong links with industry, and an unrivalled reputation for sport. Four schools, including School of Electronics and Information, School of Materials Science and Engineering, School of Automation, and School of Mechanical Engineering have participated in the joint student cultivation program with LU. This meeting further deepened the collaboration between NPU and LU, and brought more opportunities for students majoring in Software Engineering to study abroad.
