The Sitting Volleyball Match kicked off at NPU Campus

2021-10-26 14:47

On October 22, 2021, the sitting volleyball competition of the 11th National Paralympic Games and the 8th Special Olympics kicked offatAo’XiangStadiumof Northwestern PolytechnicalUniversity.Nearly 200 athletes, coaches and staff from 9 men’s teams and 6 women’s teams from 10 provinces and cities such as Jiangsu, Shanghai and Shaanxi will compete from the 22nd to the 28th, and finally determine the winners of gold, silver and bronze medals respectively.

Dig, smash, block... Different from other competitions, besides cheering, there are more laughter and mutual encouragement on the field. In the women’s group Shaanxi against Jilin, the reporter saw such a warm scene. Whenever a fierce confrontation ended, the players would cheer their opponents up. At this time, each player’s face was filled with heartfelt joy and excitement.

With the ending sign of the game, team members helped each other to get up, applauded and said “thank you” to their opponent.

To provide first-class competition venues and services for athletes and create a good competing experience, NPU has transformed and improved the toilet, training ground, lounge and other facilities following the standard requirements of Special Olympic venues. Barrier-free passage, handrail, antiskid pad and soft bag covering the corner angles all reflect NPU’s meticulous care for athletes.

Meanwhile, 239 volunteers were selected among the students in NPU to serve athletes’ security, competition organization, venue environment, information technology, media and television broadcasting coordination, medical and health care, etc. Through the pre-competition training, the volunteers learned about the rules and regulations of the competition and the arrangement of the match system. Especially for etiquette and daily manners, the school opened special courses for them. Some volunteers also spontaneously learned the use of simple sign language and auxiliary equipment.

NPU also organized a competition committee meeting on October 21.
