Northwestern Polytechnical University won the champion of “1st Open International Internet Olympiad in the discipline ‘Theoretical Mechanics’”

Recently, 1st Open International Internet Olympiad in the discipline “Theoretical Mechanics” sponsored by The State Energy Institute of Turkmenistan was successfully held. Yang Zhonxing from Northwestern Polytechnical University (NPU) won the champion of the individual competition.


224 students from 71 higher educational institutions in 14 countries including Russia, Belarus, Turkey, Greece, Rumania, Hungary, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, Afghanistan, Azerbaijan, Portugal, Ecuador, and China, as well as the host country Turkmenistan participated in the competition. Seven Chinese universities including Northwestern Polytechnical University and Xi’an Jiaotong University were invited to participate in the competition. Professor Zhang Juan from the School of Mechanics, Civil Engineering and Architecture was invited to deliver a speech at the opening ceremony. This event was also reported on the central television of Turkmenistan.

The competition was held online in the form of individual and team competitions. The individual competition was held on 11th May, 2022, and the team competition was held on 12th May, 2022. The competition offers 10% of first prize, 20% of second prize and 30% of third prize. NPU won three first prizes in the individual competition. Yang Zhongxin from Honors College won the champion of individual competition, Rao Shichao from School of Mechanical Engineering and Li Yifei from School of Astronautics won the fourth and sixth place respectively. Chen Junwei from School of Mechanics, Civil Engineering and Architecture won the second prize. In the team competition, we won the second prize.


71 higher educational institutions including Saint-Petersburg State University, Tomsk Polytechnic University, Ural Federal University, Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology, Oguz Han Engineering and Technology University of Turkmenistan, and the State Energy Institute of Turkmenistan participated in the competition. The competition provides a good international communication platform and promotes the mutual communication between teachers and students from all over the world.
