On May 13 afternoon, NPU held a series of activities on the heritage of traditional murals. The event included an exhibition of works by teachers and students of the “Mural Art Workshop,” a lecture on “The Atmosphere and Aesthetics of the Tang Dynasty from the Perspective of Murals,” and a zero-basis traditional mural heritage experience activity.
The exhibition presented more than 60 mural works copied and painted by teachers and students of the “Mural Art Workshop” course according to the ancient method and five innovative hand-painted craftworks created by using computer technology and extracted mural elements. The course is an art literacy expansion course based on the Shaanxi Province General University Chinese Excellent Traditional Culture Inheritance Base (Chinese Traditional Mural Art) led by the Art Education Center. The course is taught by Wang Jianqi, a well-known mural expert from Shaanxi History Museum, and has trained nearly 100 traditional culture inheritors and enthusiasts since the course began in 2021.
The theme lecture was given by Sun Xiaodi, Associate Professor of the Art Education Center. The lecture focused on literature, painting and calligraphy, music and dance, and philosophical thoughts in the Tang Dynasty frescoes, allowing the audience to taste the aesthetic interest and atmosphere of the Tang Dynasty and discuss the aesthetic concepts.
The activity of zero-basis traditional mural heritage experience provided a different cultural practice experience for science and technology students, guiding them to experience the complete process of making mural paintings following the ancient techniques and procedures.
