With the coming of the final undergraduate year, students of class 2019 are facing critical decisions about their future career development. In order to learn more about the individual development of 2019undergraduatesand help them reasonably plan their life courses, the QMES Center for Students’International Developmentconductedin-depth communication with students from the Class of 2019 one by one in September 2022, and held a small-class forum on the students' career planning, overseas study, further study and career guidance, further promoting the planning work for undergraduates' development. School DeanFan Xiaoli, Dai Fuping, Secretary of QMES Party Committee, Vice Dean Cheng Yin, Li Qi and Bi JialongfromQMES Center for Students’ International Development, Liu Jia, counsellor of Grade 2019 and all headteachers participated.
At the forum, students took turns to share their plans upon graduation and what they had learned from their preparation for graduation. The leaders of the school interpreted the international situation, the domestic college admission and employment situation for students, guided students to plan for the future from a broader perspective and provided answers to students' personal questions. The counsellors and head teachers sorted out the problems faced by students, ranging from postgraduate recommendation, postgraduate entrance examination, and overseas study to employment, and made detailed explanations. Li Qi and Bi Jialong from QMES Center for Students’ International Development elaborated on the policy related to an application for and studying in prestigious overseas universities.
During the exchange session, the school leaders and teachers enthusiastically gave answers to the questions and appeals raised by every student, and put forward suggestions on studying abroad and preparation for postgraduate entrance examination. They reminded students to make their study schedule reasonably and pay close attention to the registration and examination times. At present, the most popular universities for students to apply to include Imperial College London, National University of Singapore, Nanyang Technological University, ETH Zurich and so on.QMES Center for Students’ International Development will provide assistance based on students' choices. Students who are seeking a job, should lay emphasis on recruitment activities on time and actively communicate with teachers about their work intentions.
After the meeting, students expressed that they should further strengthen their ideals and beliefs, set lofty goals, work out sensible life plans according to their own development, and make decisions on their ideal colleges, majors or employment choices. With the help of QMES Center for Students’ International Development, QMES will continue to carry out guidance on career development planning, overseas study, further study and employment for students, explore innovative international development modes for students, actively expand students' international vision, cultivate students' global competence and excellent leadership, and increase the rates of employment and further study of Class of 2023.
