In order to study and implement the spirit of the 20th National Congress of CPC and stimulate the enthusiasm of the young students to love the party, love the country and love socialism, the final of the first English Speech Contest for Sino-Foreign Cooperative Education Students in Shaanxi Province, which is hosted by the Sino-foreign Cooperative Branch of the Shaanxi Association of Higher Education, organized by the QMES of NPU and co-organized by Xi’an University of Architecture and Technology, was launched online on November 28, 2022, under the guidance of the Shaanxi Provincial Department of Education. The theme of the speech contest is “The Voice of Youth, the Power of Global Competence”. After the preliminary competition of each unit and the recommendation at all levels, a total of 36 students from Sino-foreign cooperatively educational institutions and projects of Shaanxi Province participated in the contest, and there are 19 contestants reached the final.

Students from Sino-foreign cooperative educational institutions and projects watched the live broadcast of the contest online.
Wen Tong said that this contest is a practice for teachers and students to learn and implement the spirit of the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China, and it is also an important measure to show the spirit of students in Sino-foreign cooperative educational institutions and projects in Shaanxi Province. He pointed out that Shaanxi Province is the first province in China to set up Sino-foreign cooperative educational organizations at the provincial level, which reflects the determination and confidence of Shaanxi Province in introducing high-quality international education resources and cultivating international top-notch innovative talents. In recent years, Sino-foreign cooperative education has played an important role in discipline development, scientific research and “Double First-Class” initiative construction of colleges and universities, especially in high-level personnel training. The quality of students and teaching has been improved, and social effects have been enhanced. He hoped that students would always maintain their enthusiasm and devote their efforts to national development.

Wan Xiaopeng, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of NPU introduced the running situation and the achievements of talents training of QMES. He said that under the background of the holding of the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China(CPC), the speech contest would help students to further study and implement the spirit of the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China (CPC) and lead the young people to forge ahead on the new journey and make a success in the new era. He also hoped that students would maximize their language advantages, combining theory with professional practice, telling Chinese stories, spreading the voice of youth and unswervingly following the path of the CPC. He hoped that students could be the good youth in the new era who have ideals, dare to take responsibility, and are willing to struggle and work hard to contribute to fully building a modern socialist China.

The 19 contestants gave a 5-minute speech and a 3-minute talent show in sequence. Based on the spirit of party building with confidence, self-reliance, integrity, innovation, and perseverance, the contestants talked about their learning experience with the theme of “the community with a shared future for mankind, changes in hometown, school development, personal growth, role models around them, anti-epidemic stories, and the responsibility of college students”. They told inspiring stories with vivid illustrations and images, showing the spirit of young people in the new era of realizing the Chinese dream of the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation. The contestants took English dubbing, talk show, piano singing, Peking Opera and other performance forms in their talent exhibitions to show their comprehensive strength and positive vitality to the judges, guests and online audiences.
After the presentation of all contestants, Professor Zhang Yi, leader of the expert judging group and Vice Dean of the School of Foreign Studies of NPU, gave her comments on the speeches of the contestants and reviewed the wonderful moments in the contest. She affirmed the strength of the contestants and shared her experience in learning English and professional skills. She believed that this contest provided a rare learning and exchange opportunity for young students.
After the comprehensive evaluation of the judges, Xu Weihang from QMES won the special prize of the contest. Pan Yiyun from NWU-Salento School of Cultural Heritage and Arts, Northwest University, Wang Ke from Xidian University Sino-US Program, and Zeng Chenxi from the School of International Education of Xi’an University of Finance and Economics won the first prizes. Shao Kexin from Xi’an University of Architecture and Technology University of South Australia An De College, Liu Yuhan from Chang’an Dublin International College of Transportation at Chang’an University, Zhang Nannan from Ulster College at Shaanxi University of Science & Technology, Li Longxing from Xi’an University of Architecture and Technology University of South Australia An De College, Suo Jiadi from Sino-foreign Cooperative Project of Electronic Information Science and Technology of Northwest University, Zhu Siying from College of Natural Resources and Environment of Northwest A&F University won the second prizes. 9 students are winning the third prize, including the students of Chen Yiwen from QMES.
The English speech contest brings together outstanding students, promoting patriotism, showing the elegant demeanour of the youth, enhancing cultural self-confidence, and integrating ideological and political education into daily education and specialized learning. The contest provides a stage for Sino-foreign cooperative education students of Shaanxi province to show their elegant demeanor. It also enlivens the cultural and artistic atmosphere of the campus and fully demonstrates the youthful, confident and enthusiastic spirit of the contemporary college students. At the same time, the contest calls on young students to further study Xi Jinping Thoughts on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era, implement the spirit of the 20th National Congress of CPC, grasp Xi Jinping Remarks on Education and Youth Work, inspire the students to strengthen the theoretical study and professional practice, enhance their native land emotion.
