On 23 November, the semifinals and finals of the 2nd International Student Chinese Story Telling Competition on “Joyful Reading China” kicked off in Shanghai. The competition was hosted by SHNU Shanghai Teacher Education College (Teaching and Research Office of Shanghai Education Commission), and organized by the National Language and Writing Promotion Base (SHNU) and the SHNU International College of Chinese Studies. In the preliminary round, 44 universities submitted 140 entries. After expert reviews, 107 contestants from 39 countries participated in the offline semifinals and finals.
Armenian international student, Eric (GRIGORYAN ERIK), stood out in the competition with his unique perspective and excellent performance, winning the Grand Prize in the individual category. Additionally, Li Jing and Li Dan were awarded the Excellent Instructor Award.
In the final round, Eric chose "China's Sharing Economy" as his impromptu topic and told the real stories around him from a small perspective. He spoke about the ubiquitous shared bikes, shared power banks, and shared practice rooms on campus, as well as the widespread “shared convenience” and “shared joy” in society. Eric said, “The sharing economy has become an important force driving China's economic and social development, demonstrating the innovative spirit and wisdom of the Chinese people.” He hopes to bring this convenience and wisdom back to his home country in the future to benefit more people.
The “Joyful Reading China” International Student Chinese Story Telling Competition is a nationwide competition aimed at international students, with the goal of “telling China's story well and spreading China’s voice.” The competition is designed to enhance the Chinese language proficiency and expression skills of international students, promote the inheritance and dissemination of excellent Chinese culture, and present a true, multidimensional, and comprehensive image of China to the world. The International College adheres to the concept of “promoting education and learning through competition” and actively organizes international students to participate in various Chinese language competitions. It encourages students to broaden their horizons, learn about Chinese culture, improve their Chinese skills, and showcase the spirit of the university on a larger stage.
