NPU-MAI Joint Institute Approved for Establishment

2025-06-06 17:38

On May 14, 2025, the NPU-MAI Joint Institute received official approval from China's Ministry of Education. This marks a significant strategic move by our university to enhance global talent cultivation, creating a more open, forward-looking, and resilient international collaboration environment. It also creates new growth points for deepening complementary strengths and expanding exchanges in education, technology, and talent between Chinese and Russian higher education sectors.

The NPU-MAI Joint Institute is a Sino-foreign cooperative educational institution established by NPU and Moscow Aviation Institute (MAI). As pivotal universities in the aerospace field, NPU and MAI are respectively responsible for cultivating talent and advancing scientific research in China and Russia. The two universities share a long-standing partnership, robust talent exchanges, and highly complementary strengths in aligned disciplines. Notably, MAI has been deeply involved in numerous major national projects and critical research initiatives, earning the distinction in Russia as the "Cradle of Chief Designers." This legacy provides a solid foundation for the successful operation of the Institute and the future development of students.

The Institute offers four undergraduate programs: Aerospace Vehicle Design and Engineering (Program Code: 082002H), Aeronautical and Astronautical Engineering (Program Code: 082001H), Detection, Guidance and Control Technology (Program Code: 082103H), and Electronic Science and Technology (Program Code: 080702H).

The Institute adopts a "4+0" model and "Dual-degree" programs. It is designed to cultivate "the chief designers" in the aerospace industry, who possess both a profound sense of national commitment and a global perspective in aerospace and related fields. Upon completing all courses and practical training specified in the curriculum with passing grades, students will be awarded an undergraduate diploma and a bachelor's degree certificate from Northwestern Polytechnical University, and a bachelor's degree certificate from Moscow Aviation Institute.

The university will continue upholding its philosophy of open cooperation, strengthening collaboration with world-class universities and research institutions to build a dual-focus international education system that equally emphasizes inbound engagement and outbound development. This framework aims to cultivate more top-tier innovative talents who master cutting-edge technologies while being deeply rooted in national commitment.
