On August 24, NPU-MAI Joint Institute held first freshmen orientation at the AoXiang Student Centre on the Chang’an Campus. Vice President of NPU Yue Xiaokui, Deputy Minister of Advanced Scientific Programs of the Russian Academy of Aviation Oleg Simonov, Deputy Director of the International Department and Executive Vice Dean of Moscow Aviation Institute, Evgeny Neretin, Head of the Education Department Aleksandr Ermakov, Head of International Programs Anastasiia Kovaleva, Director of the International Cooperation Office Kong Jie, Director of the Planning and Finance Department Han Suo Min, Director of the Party Committee's Student Affairs Department Wu Wenchuan, Secretary of the Youth League Committee She Leilei, Director of the Admissions Office and Deputy Director of the Academic Affairs Department, Wang Ke Qin, Deputy Director of the International Cooperation Office Xiang Dan, Vice Dean of the School of Electronics and Information Yao Rugui, Assistant to the Dean of the School of Aeronautics Ye Kun, Assistant to the Dean of the School of Astronautics Guo Ning, along with other responsible officials of NPU-MAI Joint Institute, the entire freshman of 2025, and representatives of their parents jointly witnessed this historic moment. The ceremony was presided over by Dai Fuping, the Secretary of the Party Committee of NPU-MAI Joint Institute.
Firstly, Vice President Yue Xiaokui extended a warm welcome and congratulations to the first 205 new students of NPU-MAI Joint Institute. He reviewed the process of the two universities’ in-depth cooperation and the development of Sino-foreign cooperative education, based on the history and academic characteristics of both universities. In his speech, he emphasized that the first batch of new students of NPU-MAI Joint Institute are not only a fresh vitality for NPU, but also historical witnesses and future pioneers of Sino-Russian higher education cooperation. Yue Xiaokui put forward three earnest expectations for the new students: First, he hopes that students will have a sense of family and country, take on the mission, and be the connectors of Sino-Russian friendship. Second, he hopes that students will study hard, think actively, pursue excellence, and be the practitioners of educational cooperation. Third, he hopes that students will be innovative and daring to break through, and be the pioneers of serving the country in the field of aeronautics and astronautics.
Dean of NPU-MAI Joint Institute Fan Xiaoli of the School of Aeronautics and Astronautics gave a detailed interpretation of the school’s educational features and development blueprint to the new students. She introduced the development history of Northwestern Polytechnical University and Moscow Aviation Institute and their outstanding contributions in the field of aeronautics and astronautics. She earnestly urged the new students to firm up their ideals and beliefs, deepen their sense of family and country, solidify their academic foundation, enhance lifelong learning, take root in Chinese soil, expand their international vision, boldly try and practice, focus on all-round development, and strive to break through limits in the journey of serving the country in the field of aeronautics and astronautics, letting the vast starry sky witness the lofty aspirations of Chinese youth.
Evgeny Neretin delivered a speech on behalf of Moscow Aviation Institute（MAI）. In his address, he introduced the history and educational features of NPU-MAI Joint Institute and reviewed the significant achievements made since the establishment of the cooperative relationship between the two universities. Focusing on the four core aspects of the cooperative education program, he outlined the future research and engineering practice directions that students will be exposed to during their studies. He emphasized that the exploration of aeronautics and astronautics is a common human endeavor that transcends borders and connects dreams. He hoped that students would commit themselves to scientific exploration and technological practice with a spirit of excellence, continuously enhancing their innovation capabilities and engineering practice skills, and strive to become a bridge for Sino-Russian scientific, technological, and cultural cooperation. He noted that the first-year student welcome party of NPU-MAI Joint Institute marks a key milestone in the cooperation between the two universities in the field of talent cultivation. He encouraged students to cherish the valuable learning platform built through Sino-Russian university cooperation, not only to acquire solid professional knowledge and skills but also to bravely explore the infinite possibilities of aeronautics and astronautics.
NPU-MAI Joint Institute Wang Yongxin of the School of Aeronautics and Astronautics and Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee Cheng Yin presented appointment letters tothe undergraduate counselors and head teachers.
Li Chulin, the representative of the freshmen of 2025 expressed his eager anticipation and longing for exploring new knowledge in his major studies and gaining growth in campus life after entering the freshmen of 2025 through his energetic sharing. He is determined to continuously temper his solid skills, stimulate his innovative potential, and expand his global vision on this first-class international learning platform, laying a solid foundation for becoming an outstanding talent capable of shouldering the great mission of the national rejuvenation in the future.
In his concluding remarks, Dai Fuping pointed out that although NPU-MAI Joint Institute has just been established, it has high aspirations. Here, there are first-class faculties from two “Cradles of Chief Engineer” cutting-edge disciplines, and open platforms, as well as endless possibilities waiting for the students to discover. He hopes that students will seek true knowledge and practice real skills, forging ahead in the ocean of knowledge; make close friends and temper their character, gaining friendship through teamwork; have a sense of family and country, and look to the future, becoming “Cradles of Chief Engineer” with both an international vision and an innovative spirit!
