On November 5, 2025, the provincial round of the 2025 "Understanding Contemporary China"Chinese Short Video Contest for International Students in China concluded successfully. Jointly organized by Beijing Foreign Studies University and Beijing Language and Culture University, and hosted by Foreign Language Teaching and Research Press, this year’s competition was themed “Beautiful China.” The event attracted 491 submissions from international students at 196 universities across 28 provinces nationwide.

In the highly competitive contest, our Indonesian student Teddy Perwira Dirja (Zhang Yicheng) won the Gold Award with his heartfelt and thought-provoking short film Looking Back at Chang’an, Searching for a Beautiful China. His outstanding work earned him a place in the national finals.

In the video, Zhang Yicheng offers a distinctive perspective and engaging narration to present his feelings on and encounters with both the ancient and modern facets of Xi’an. Through vivid storytelling, he conveys his deep appreciation and affection for Chinese culture, infusing his vision of “Beautiful China” with genuine emotional warmth.
