ANNOUNCEMENT FOR THE 5TH INTERNATIONAL ONLINE LECTURE SERIES OF SCHOOL OF SOFTWARE, NORTHWESTERN POLYTECHNICAL UNIVERSITY
October 12-14, 2020. Xi’an, China
The International Lecture Series of School of Software (ILSSS), Northwestern Polytechnical University is held every year in the autumn time. This year marks the 5th year. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the 5th ILSSS will be held remotely from Oct. 12-14, 2020. During this meeting, we will be joined by 17 colleagues and experts from US, UK, Poland, Pakistan, Italy, etc. They will give 17 talks on three sessions, they are Intelligence, Internet of Things and Software. Zheng Jiangbin received Ph.D. degree from School of Computer Science, Northwestern Polytechnical University, in Computer Science. He has presided over the research work of scientific research projects such as the National Natural Science Foundation, the 863 Program, and provincial and ministerial funds, and has published more than 100 articles. From 2008, he was working as professor at Northwestern Polytechnical University, Xi’an, P.R. China. He is currently dean at School of Software, Northwestern Polytechnical University, Xi’an, P.R. China. His research interests are image processing and computer vision, the IoTs, big data processing, and embedded computing technology.

Keynote Speakers:
Prof Wenzhong Shi is Academician of International Eurasian Academy of Sciences, Otto Poon Charitable Foundation Professor in Urban Informatics, Chair Professor in GISci and remote sensing, Director of PolyU-Shenzhen Technology and Innovation Research Institute (Futian), Director of Smart Cities Research Institute. He served as President of Commission II for International Society for Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing (2008-2012) and President for Hong Kong Geographic Information System Association (2001-2003). He also serves as an editorial board member for multiple international journals.
Prof Shi obtained his doctoral degree from University of Osnabrück in Vechta, Germany in 1994. He is Fellow of Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors and Hong Kong Institute of Surveyors. He received Natural Science Award (China’s highest award for fundamental research) in 2007, Wang Zhizhuo Award from International Society of Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing in 2012. Prof Shi’s current research interests include urban informatics for Smart Cities, GISci and remote sensing, intelligent analytics and quality control for spatial big data, artificial-intelligence-based object extraction and change detection from satellite imagery, and mobile mapping and 3-D modelling based on LiDAR and remote sensing imagery. He has published more than 220 research articles that are indexed by Science Citation Index (SCI) and 15 books.
Prof MengChu Zhou received his B.S. degree in Control Engineering from Nanjing University of Science and Technology, Nanjing, China in 1983, M.S. degree in Automatic Control from Beijing Institute of Technology, Beijing, China in 1986, and Ph. D. degree in Computer and Systems Engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, Troy, NY in 1990. He joined New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT), Newark, NJ in 1990, and is now a Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering. His research interests are in Petri nets, intelligent automation, Internet of Things, big data, cloud/edge computing, web services, and artificial intelligence. He has over 900 publications including 12 books, 600+ journal papers (450+ in IEEE transactions), 330+ conerence proceeding papers, 26 patents and 29 book-chapters. He is the founding Editor of IEEE Press Book Series on Systems Science and Engineering and Editor-in-Chief of IEEE/CAA Journal of Automatica Sinica. He is presently Associate Editor of IEEE Transactions on Intelligent Transportation Systems, IEEE Internet of Things Journal and IEEE Transactions on Systems, Man, and Cybernetics: Systems. He is a recipient of Humboldt Research Award for US Senior Scientists from Alexander von Humboldt Foundation, Franklin V. Taylor Memorial Award and the Norbert Wiener Award from IEEE Systems, Man and Cybernetics Society, Excellence in Research Prize and Medal from NJIT, and 2020 Edison Patent Award from the Research & Development Council of New Jersey. He a highly cited scholar and ranked top one in the field of engineering worldwide in 2012 by Web of Science. His work has been cited for over 37,700 with his H-index being 96 according to Google Scholar. He is a life member of Chinese Association for Science and Technology-USA and served as its President in 1999. He is a Fellow of IEEE, International Federation of Automatic Control (IFAC), American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) and Chinese Association of Automation (CAA).
Professor Mike Hinchey was Chair of IEEE UK & Ireland Section for 2018-2019. He is President of IFIP, the International Federation for Information Processing, founded by UNESCO, and is Emeritus Director of Lero-the Science Foundation Ireland Research Centre for Software and Professor of Software Engineering at University of Limerick, Ireland. Prior to joining Lero, Professor Hinchey was the Director of the NASA Software Engineering Laboratory. In 2009, he was awarded NASA’s Kerley Award as Innovator of the Year and is recognized in the NASA Inventors Hall of Fame. Professor Hinchey holds a B.Sc. in Computer Systems from University of Limerick, an M.Sc. in Computation from University of Oxford and a PhD in Computer Science from University of Cambridge. Professor Hinchey is a Chartered Engineer, Chartered Engineering Professional, Chartered Mathematician and Charted Information Technology Professional, as well as a Fellow of the IET, British Computer Society, Engineers Australia, Engineers Ireland, and Irish Computer Society, of which he is also President. He is Editor-in-Chief of Innovations in Systems and Software Engineering: a NASA Journal and Journal of the Brazilian Computer Society. In January 2018, he became an Honorary Fellow of the Computer Society of India and was the SEARCC Global ICT Professional of the Year 2018.
Shaoying Liu is a Professor of Software Engineering at Hiroshima University, Japan, IEEE Fellow, and BCS Fellow. He received the Ph.D in Computer Science from the University of Manchester, U.K in 1992. His research interests include Formal Engineering Methods for Software Development, Specification Verification and Validation, Specification-based Program Inspection, Automatic Specification-based Testing, Testing-Based Formal Verification, and Intelligent Software Engineering Environments. He has published a book entitled "Formal Engineering for Industrial Software Development" with Springer-Verlag, 12 edited conference proceedings, and over 200 academic papers in refereed journals and international conferences. He proposed to use the terminology of "Formal Engineering Methods" in 1997, and has established Formal Engineering Methods as a research area based on his extensive research on the SOFL (Structured Object-Oriented Formal Language) method since 1989, and the development of ICFEM conference series since 1997. In recent years, he has served as the General Chair of ICFEM 2017, the Chair of ICECCS Steering Committee, and a PC member for numerous international conferences. He is an Associate Editor for IEEE Transactions on Reliability and a member of JSSST and IPSJ.
